News & Announcements

Dear Grant Families,

Welcome to the 2025-26 School Year! I hope this letter finds you well and that you've had a wonderful, relaxing summer. We're so excited to welcome both returning and new students to what promises to be another fantastic school year at Grant Elementary!

Important Back-to-School Information

We're kicking off the school year with our annual PTA Popcorn Posting August 15th from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM. Learners who have their digital back-to-school packet completed will receive a special treat and have the exciting opportunity to meet their teacher!

Parents and guardians will need to complete this packet through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have any questions or need support with the PowerSchool Parent Portal, please don't hesitate to contact our office at 707-441-2552. We'll also have Chromebooks and staff available at the Popcorn Posting on August 15th to assist you.

Campus Information

The first day of school is Monday, August 18th! Here's a quick look at our daily schedule:

  • 7:40 AM: Campus opens and breakfast is available
  • 8:05 AM: Classrooms open
  • 8:10 AM: Instruction begins
  • 1:43 PM: Monday Dismissal
  • 2:30 PM: Tuesday-Friday Dismissal

We encourage families to park and walk to reduce traffic and increase public safety.

Our campus will be open daily at 7:40 AM. For the safety and supervision of our students, we kindly request that students not arrive on campus before this time, or their adult must remain with them. All learners arriving after 8:10 AM will need to stop at the Office for a tardy slip.

To ensure a smooth start to the instructional day, we kindly ask that families please leave the classrooms at 8:10 AM to avoid interfering with instruction. We also ask that your learner arrives prior to 8:00 AM  if they are needing breakfast, so they do not miss out on instructional time. All visitors after 8:05 AM must sign in with the office and have a visitors badge.

School Supplies

Our school will provide all the necessary materials your child will need for their learning journey. This also includes a Daily Communication folder that will travel home with your child every Monday through Thursday. This folder is a great way for us to share important updates and for you to send notes back to the school. We want to make sure every learner is ready for success. If you need assistance with a backpack for your child, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're here to help!

Dress for Success

At school, we want learners to be comfortable and ready for all activities, from learning in the classroom to playing at recess and participating in PE. That's why we have a few guidelines about clothing:

  • Shoes: For safety during active play and PE, students need to wear flat, closed-toe shoes. We've found that Crocs and sandals just aren't safe for these activities, so please save those for home.
  • Appropriate Fit: To ensure comfort and modesty, please make sure your child's clothing isn't too baggy, and that shorts, skirts, or dresses aren't too short. Also, midriffs must be fully covered.
  • Change of Clothes: For our younger learners in TK through 1st grade, we highly recommend keeping a change of clothing in their backpack. Accidents happen, and having a spare set of clothes can make a big difference!
  • Label Everything! Jackets and sweatshirts often get misplaced. We strongly encourage you to write your child's name on these items so they can be easily returned if found.

Items to Leave at Home

To help create the best learning environment for all learners, we ask that certain items be left at home. This helps minimize distractions and lost items, and ensures a safe and focused school day. Please help your child remember to keep the following at home:

  • Cell phones and Smart Devices: If a student needs to bring a cell phone or smart device to school for after-school communication, it must be checked in at the main office upon arrival and can be picked up at dismissal. Devices not checked in will be confiscated and available for parent pickup in the office.
  • Toys, Blankets, and Stuffed Animals: We understand toys are fun, but they can be distracting in the classroom.
  • Purses, Wallets, and Money: While it's good for students to learn about money, bringing valuable items or significant amounts of cash to school can lead to loss or theft.

Student Birthday Opportunities

The staff at Grant Elementary understands and appreciates a child’s birthday. Please work with your child's teacher to coordinate classroom celebrations. Teachers emails can be found in the contact us link.

We are looking forward to a successful and engaging school year filled with learning and growth. We can't wait to see all of our students soon!

Warmly,

Rachel Brakeman-Arnold, Principal
